Natural Treatments for Hay Fever
Spring is here again - a time for more sun and time spent outside. For some of us however it heralds the beginning of the hay fever season and the uncomfortable symptoms that accompany it.
Hay fever is a form of allergic rhinitis which can occur from early spring to late summer. Pollens and other airborne substances react on the membranes of the nose, eyes and mouth causing release of histamines and resulting in itching, sneezing and runny nose, wheezing etc. The reason for the general increase in allergies is complex but diversity of foods and crops, chemical pollution and poor diet are partly to blame for weakening of our immune systems. Short-term solutions include anti-histamines, cortisone and nasal sprays but the symptoms invariably return the following year.
Homeopathy is a form of natural medicine which can not only relieve immediate symptoms but increase immunity in future years. There are many remedies that can help with the acute symptoms and over time they can help the body to overcome this uncomfortable and often debilitating condition. A benefit of Homeopathic remedies is that they are very safe and can be used alongside conventional medicine where necessary.
Nutrition can reduce the symptoms of hay fever. Some foodstuffs and supplements increase resistance and reduce symptoms whilse others frequently aggravate them. This can vary with each person so I take a full medical and personal history before giving advice.
